Wonderland

Again, I have to applaud DirecTV for putting quality programming on their The 101 Network.  I will say, as of right now they only have a  couple of good shows and bunch of lame ones there.  However, I hope they get feedback from other viewers like myself that appreciate the good stuff they put on this channel, so they will continue to do so.

First, they did a deal with NBC to produce and broadcast another season of what I think is the best show on network television, Friday Night Lights.  I hope they continue to do this or at least put out a fourth season on their own.  The third season just ended on The Network 101 and started on NBC.

Now, they are broadcasting the only season of the show Wonderland, as a mini-series.  This show was originally produced by Peter Berg, the same guy that produces FNL, back in 2000 for ABC.  I knew Wonderland was a show that was produced a while back, that never made it on network TV (besides the first two episodes), however I didn't realize how long ago it was produced.  Tonight, as I was watching the second episode, their was a scene where the camera pans down from the top of the World Trade Center into a restaurant window with two of the main characters talking.  Only after seeing that scene did I further research to find out more about the show and what year it was produced.

The show Wonderland takes a look at both doctors and patients in a New York City psychiatric hospital.  After watching the first two episodes, I can see why it might have been canceled off of regular network television, it's pretty gripping, intense and dark.  It is well written and acted, so I am sure I'll watch the remaining episodes.

Holiday Blockhead

It's awesome to see how the television special A Charlie Brown Christmas has stood the test of time.  I think it is still my favorite holiday special of all time.

Charles M. Schulz wrote a masterful commentary of the general public during the holiday season, when he penned the script.  It truly is quite a social observation, which holds true today, if even more so than when it was first drafted.

Fashion Nightmare

I am so bummed out that I went to read some news headlines a few moments ago and saw who won this season of Project Runway.

I am by no means a fashionable guy, as far as the clothes I wear.  It's tough being a fat guy.  I've addressed this here in the past.  All the clothes for fat guys, have to state clearly across the article of clothing, "Big Guy", "I Run With The Big Dogs", or something ridiculous like that.  Might as well put me in a canvas sack and write "I Love 5 For 5!".

Anyway, I don't dress fashionable at all, however I think I do have a keen eye for fashion.  I am constantly people watching and enjoy looking at what people are putting together to create their own look.

So at some point this evening I will sit down and watch the finale of this season and not be surprised at all.

Remember kids, just because you think you might dress bright, doesn't mean you shine.  You are never completely dressed until you put on a smile.

Get With The Program

I so wish MSNBC would get with the program and start broadcasting in high definition.

I would much rather be listening to Kieth Olbermann and the rest of the MSNBC gang commenting on the DNC.  However, it has lost out to CNN, which is broadcasting from the floor of the convention in high definition.

There is something about seeing all those folks in all their crazy gear in HD.  Plus, two words.  Anderson Cooper.  My wife thinks he's a dreamboat.

R.I.P. Tim Russert

Love or hate him.  Love or hate the politicians he covered as NBC's Washington Bureau Chief and moderator of "Meet The Press".  There was always something fun about tuning in and watching Tim Russert grill the person across the table from him, like a burger over an open fire.

He brought so much research data and so many quotes to the table, that I don't see how anyone could stand to sit across from him if they had something to spin or hide.

I will totally miss spending some quiet time on Sunday mornings with Mr. Tim Russert and I can't even imagine going through this historic presidential election without his coverage, insight and dry erase board.

LOST

As we were watching the season finale of LOST last night, I couldn't help but feel like I was watching an old episode of MacGyver.  Those survivors are some crafty beavers.

Speaking of crafty beavers, I think the only reason I still watch the show is to see Juliet Burke.  Sometimes I'll fall asleep during an episode, only to wake and find the wife has paused the show to stare into the eyes of Desmond David Hume, she thinks he's the bees knees.

HDTV

The Lady and Doodlebug went to the aunt's baby shower this weekend in Indy.

No time to type right now, me and The Little Man are sitting around eating junk food in front of the new TV.

One quick thing about HDTV, the good looking people look awesome, but the ugly people...not so good.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Uncle Sam & HDTV

It's tax time.  The time of year when I feel like I have contributed financially to the family, from not having a "job" and raising our children.

Uncle Sam owed us some cash back and the deposit has now been made, which can only mean one thing.  The family is going to invest in an HDTV.

We are thinking flat panel LCD and I've narrowed it down to either Sharp or Samsung...I think.  So that's what I've been up to, researching LCD High Definition televisions.

It was funny, the other night we were supposed to go out to dinner, but the plans fell through.  The sitter still came, so The Lady and I could go grab about without the children.  Once we get in the car, The Lady tells me, "Let's go buy the television."  I was caught off guard, I didn't have my research, my printouts, price comparisons.  I couldn't pull the trigger and in hindsight I'm glad I didn't, my research was not complete.

Anyone wanting to share tips, comments or experiences about HD televisions, feel free to let me know.

This Just In...

The Lady and I will be LOST tonight.

It's back.  One of the two television shows I make sure to watch.

I started watching it from the get go, The Lady did not.  I finally got her to watch the start the second season.  She's addicted, she is into the show more than I am.  I've created a monster.  She goes to all the different sites out there, trying to figure out what the heck is going on with those people, on that island.  I just watch the show.

As I check the weather, we might not be watching until tomorrow night because she might be late comiing back home from Chicago.  I doubt that, she will stay up to watch it not matter what time, simply because she wouldn't be able to go all day tomorrow without reading about it.

Shhh, just in case, don't tell me anything until after Friday.

Look, Pictures!
