Bedtime Stories

I watched the speech our president gave to congress last night.  I was impressed, as I normally am, by his delivery.

Anyone that knows me, is aware that I have been a long time supporter of the president, however so far, there has been things he has done that I have not been on board with 100%.  With that being said, I just want him to work and lead the agenda that he has in mind to get this country back on track.  I don't want him and congress to be concerned about the bipartisanship junk.  We have a democrat president and a democrat majority in congress, that won handily.  Call their agenda socialism or whatever you want, let's go, on with it.

On the other hand, we have the republicans and their boy wonder, Governor Bobby Jindal, from my home state of Louisiana.  I watched Governor Jindal give the republican response to the president's address to congress.  To sum it up in musically, it was like Raffi coming on stage after Prince.

Governor Jindal looked and sounded like he was reading to a group of fourth graders.  That was my first thought while watching him.  Then a friend pointed out to me that Nate Silver, from the website fivethirtyeitght.com, blogged the following:

"If it sounds like Jindal is targeting his speech to a room full of fourth graders, that's because he is. They might be the next people to actually vote for Republicans again."

I would love to have Governor Jindal take a trip, to our house from Louisiana, with my mom.  They could bring some food, drink and seasonings.  Then they could read bedtime stories to the kids.  They are much more articulate and sing-song than I am.  My mom could stick around for a while, but Governor Jindal could go back to Louisiana and his pedestal to remind us all how it was the republicans that were on watch when 9/11 and Hurricane Katrina happened.

Thoughts On The Day

First things first, I like my news liberal and biased, so for commentary I tuned in to MSNBC.  Not that they are liberal and biased, I just find them a lot easier to listen to, I don't disagree with them as much.  It would be so nice if they would get with the program and start broadcasting in high definition.

Like I said earlier, I wasn't really able to take in a lot of the inaugural event today, I was only able to watch portions here and there.

So I finally sat down in front of the television this evening and started replaying the events of the day.  Following are some random thoughts on the days events.

  • As the night is growing long, you can just see the exhaustion on the face of the President and The First Lady.  I wish they could just go home, get in bed and go to sleep.  I can't imagine how long and overwhelming the day has been for them.
  • The new presidential ride is tall and mighty looking.  Dare I say...Cadillac, Cadillac style.
  • Chris Matthews is great.
  • Mrs. Obama brought a gift for Mrs. Bush.  Classy.
  • Dick Cheney in a wheelchair...hmm, karma?
  • Would love to be a fly on the wall in the limos that Biden and Cheney and Obama and Bush are riding in.
  • Oh yes, Mrs. Obama looks great in the dress/top coat combo.  Nice green accent gloves.
  • The amount of people and the tiny flags waving is pretty remarkable.
  • MSNBC anchors talking great about the general public that are supporters of the country, but not necessarily the Bush administration, while the Vice President, President, Vice President Elect, President Elect and their wives have coffee.
  • David Axelrod, he's cool.
  • I heart Doris Kearns Goodwin.  I would like to have her come over for dinner and conversation.
  • Senator Ted Kennedy looked good early in the day.  (Reports say he is doing good now)
  • President Jimmy Carter and wife Rosalynn look nice and healthy.
  • President George H.W. Bush and his old bag Barbara look old and decrepit.  I got problemswith Barbara.  They also look like they are going to a LSU game, with the purple and gold sweater scarf combo.
  • The Clintons are putting on a happy face, but I'm sure they have to be a little sour.
  • Joe Biden looks like a kid in a candy store.
  • This dude from Saddle church is going on forever.  zzz...zzz...zzz
  • The music by the quartet was great.
  • Roberts messed up the oath of office.
  • The speech had much deserved barbs at former administration and the calling on the people of America to take responsibility.
  • Bush looks relieved to be heading towards the helicopter.
  • The President and First Lady still have a really long day ahead of them.

Those were some thoughts on the inauguration.

Pause

I'm not a big fan of half day kindergarten right now.  We will be leaving to take Doodlebug to school right during the speech.

Thank goodness for the pause button.

Happy Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day

I am thankful for my Civil Rights.

It's hard to imagine the struggles of those that put up with what went on in our nation's history to get where we are today, but I am truly thankful to them.

I hope I have done things in my life so far and continue to do them, that not only help our family, but our country, to stay on the path to make life better for all.

R.I.P. Bettie Page

Bettie Page passed away recently.

She was "Queen of Pinups" throughout the 1950's and her legend, which has become iconic, still looms large today.

So far, there have been two different eras in my lifetime when Bettie Page inspired hairstyles, with those cute short bangs, have come back in style with the ladies, in the places I've lived.  For that alone I salute Bettie Page.

It is also refreshing to know that back in the 1950's, and even today with the folks that dig Bettie Page or women like her, a curvy girl was and is a hot girl.

Proud

It's way beyond the fact that I agree with the policies of President Elect Barack Obama, this is truly an historical event for this country.

Even if it does go hell in a handbasket, which I don't think it will, the hope that this result gives for all future generations of children in this country is worth more than any words I could type right now.

Two For Blue

Ohio & Pennsylvania go blue.  Huge.

A lame ass country and western wannabe, that fixes pipes, couldn't pull one over on the true working class in those two states.

Red

The first state to be called in the presidential election....Kentucky.  It goes to McCain.

There are over 500,000 more registered Democrats than there are registered Republicans in Kentucky.  Even though they have the numbers, they are the worst organized party I have ever seen.  I'm ashamed to be one of them.

Way to go Commonwealth!

Election Night

First observation...

DIRECTV has channel 352 which is a mix election coverage from numerous network feeds.  One can highlight the box of the feed they wish to hear the audio from.

Nice!

The Long Awaited One On One

I just saw a couple of snippets of the long awaited one on one interview with Governor Sarah Palin.

Charlie Gibson asks Palin about the Bush Doctrine and she looks like deer in headlights.  To her credit, she gets snarky, which seems to play to the demographic she was picked for, and spins.  Gibson, on the other hand, comes across as a crotchety old fart, with glasses hanging off the tip of his nose.

Push.

I am missing Tim Russert really bad right now.

Look, Pictures!
