Another Assignment

I only plan on taking part in these little assignments that I think are kind of compelling and neat.  I tend to shy away from the 100 things about me lists and random surveys asking me what I had for lunch or what am I wearing at the moment.  Anyone that knows me can take a wild guess and most likely be 100% correct on those two questions.

Anyway, here is the latest assignment I have signed up for.  http://www.bravehumans.com/30000/.

I'll go ahead and be the pessimists that I always tend to be and say I don't think it will change the world, but it should make for some interesting reading while the insomnia is in full effect.

Mystify: The Sequel

Mystify_5 I got to thinking about that assignment that Blue Sloth came up with again and thought I would toss a few random things out there real quick.

  • Import tuning.  The people that buy a Honda, Toyota, or Nissan put a fancy trunk spoiler, some neon lights in the undercarriage, and a big loud-ass muffler on it.  Dude, it's still a Civic.
  • With the above usually comes the pants hanging off the butt and the baseball style hat turned to about 2:30.  Mystified.
  • Litterbugs, another participant in the assignment mentioned this, what's up with all the littering?
  • Fat guy clothes.  Being a fat guy myself, I think I can question why most t-shirts in my size have some dumb slogan on it like I Run With The Big Dogs or Y R U So Small or simply Big Daddy.  I don't run with any dogs.
  • Bratz.  I'm mystified by the amount of folks that buy these dolls.  Get them Hootchie while they are young.
  • Parents that don't watch their children at play areas in a mall.

I'm sure this list could be updated often and it might in the future.

Mystify assignment

Mystify_3

This is a post I am doing for the assignment that Blue Sloth devised.

mys·ti·fy

      1. To confuse or puzzle mentally.
      2. To make obscure or mysterious.

In short the assignment was this; create a post (or posts, as many as you like!) wherein you discuss the details of something that mystifies you.

Simple.

President Bush,

I was reflecting back to hurricane Katrina, as I do quite often, and how I was completely mystified by, in my opinion, your lack of compassion for those affected by the levee breaches in New Orleans, LA.

I was absolutely ashamed by the lack of response displayed on the federal government’s behalf during the hours following the breaches. I try to comprehend the red tape that comes with that type of deployment, but people needed food and water. This is America, the United States of America, and it broke my heart to see people from my home state stranded in places for days without food and water.

I implore you to speak to us, rally citizens again to help the people from New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region.  You, for one, know that not only is New Orleans one of the greatest cities in our nation, but it is one of the greatest cities in the world.  I have heard you lay blame on state and local government for problems with rebuilding.  If that is the case, why not visit on a more frequent basis to display leadership and question why things are not being expedited?

I am very aware you signed to send funds for relief, you stated that clearly after the fact, but by you not mentioning New Orleans and the Gulf Coast region in your 2007 State of The Union address, once again showed the nation your lack of compassion.  This is an American tragedy that cannot be ignored by you until things get better there, and sir, they are not.

As I was reflecting back on that time when I was watching, appalled, at the lack of immediate response as thousands of helpless Americans were stranded for days, dehydrated, suffering, and dying I questioned your lack of compassion.

Was it because the majority of the suffering Americans were not your political base and you didn't need to be reelected or was it other issues at hand, such as Iraq?  Then I thought back to this.

"What I'm hearing which is sort of scary is that they all want to stay in Texas. Everybody is so overwhelmed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway so this is working very well for them."

Former First Lady Barbara Bush, on the hurricane evacuees at the Astrodome in Houston, Sept. 5, 2005

One thing I have learned, sir, in my few years as a parent is, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Without compassion, grows no compassion.

I would hope that you, for yourself, learn that you should treat people with more dignity, grace, and respect.

Letter I sent to President Bush

Sloth assignment

One blog that I read on occasion is Blue Sloth.  I found the link to it on other blogs that I read when I have the time.

Blue Sloth devised this assignment that I thought was pretty cool.  I wanted to take part in it seeing that I am new to this (blogging) and it would be a way to get people to take a look at what's going on here at Hooray For Saturday.  Absolutely shameless plug.

So stay tuned, because ever since I saw the assignment the hamster wheel in the noggin has been spinning.  I can't figure whether to post things that I consider very serious or just random WTF type stuff.

Look, Pictures!
